 BASKETBALL CONTEST

 

April 26th
For: Males & Females, Grades 2nd - 12th;
Start Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location:  1224 N Husband St. Stillwater, OK 74075. Stillwater High School Field House (Main Gym)
Cost: $10/Contest
REGISTER

Games:  Free Throw Contest, 3pt Shooting Contest, Hot Shot Contest, Skills Challenge.

Prizes:  Prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place contestants.

Contestants will compete in one of Five Divisions:

Youth Girls & Boys Grades 2-4; 5-6; 7-8; 9-12;  *(Girls & Boys (mixed) Compete against each other in that Division)

Contestant Eligibility:  All players must be registered before contest start time.  Each contestant can participate in one or as many contests as she/he may like.   Regarding eligibility, each contestant is responsible for competing in the correct Division.  Contestants who compete in the wrong Division will be disqualified.  Contestants may not switch Divisions.

Attire: ALL CONTESTANTS MUST HAVE:

• Gym shoes are required. 
• A t-shirt, Basketball uniforms are acceptable, but not required and gym shorts.

Equipment:  All players must wear athletic shoes.  Contestants can use their own basketballs. Girls/Women and Grades 2-4 Division, the 28.5 size basketball will be used.  All other Divisions, the basketball will be regulation size.

Free Throw Contest Rules:

1)  All contestants must be present and ready to participate at their designated court and shooting time.  In no case may a contestant shoot before or after the designated time. Shooting times are set by Graham’s Shooting Stars Director.  Contestants who shoot before or after their designated time will be disqualified.  No exceptions.

2)  The contestant must let the judge know when she/he is ready to begin.  The free throw contest judges will inform the contestant is shooting for score after 2 warm-up shots. This will be the last verbal contact that the judge will have with the contestant.  Judges will record the score on score sheets.

3)  Players must start and end the shots behind the free throw line.  Youth Division: Grades 2-4 will shoot at the 13ft line which is 2ft in front of the regulation free throw line. 

4) (Depending on the number of participants) Round 1:  Contest will be the Best of 20 Free Throws.  Each Player will take 2 warm-up shots.  Tie breaker will be best of 5 Free Throws followed by Best of 3 Free Throws (if necessary).  Top 12 contestants will advance.

5)  Upon completing their warm-up shots and 20 shots for score, the contestant will report to the end of the line until the remaining contestants have completed their shots.

6)  Round 2: Contest will be the Best of 10 free throws.  Tie breaker will be best of 5 Free Throws followed by Best of 3 Free Throws (if necessary) until Top 6 contestants are established. 

6)  Round 3:  Contest will be the Best of 10 free throws.  Tie breaker will be best of 5 Free Throws followed by Best of 3 Free Throws (if necessary) until Top 3 contestants are established. 

7)  Finals:  Contest will be the Best of 10 free throws.  Tie breaker will be best of 5 Free Throws followed by Best of 3 Free Throws (if necessary) until 1st, 2nd & 3rd place contestants are established. 

8)  The recorded scores of the Judges are final.  No family member, friends, or spectators, because of their count, can change the Judges score or decision.

3-Point Contest Rules:

1)   All contestants must be present and ready to participate at their designated court and shooting time.  In no case may a contestant shoot before or after the designated time. Shooting times are set by Graham’s Shooting Stars Director. Contestants who shoot before or after their designated time will be disqualified. No exceptions.

2)  Each contestant will have 5 racks of 5 basketballs to attempt. These are located at each corner, the top of the key, and at the midway point between each corner and the key.  The contestant will have one minute (60sec) to attempt all 25 shots.  The first 4 balls on each rack will be worth 1 point. The 5th ball will be a “money ball” and will be worth 2 points.  In order for a try to be successful, the participant must have both feet behind the line when she/he begins their attempt.  If the participant has a foot on the line or in front of the line, the shot will not be counted, and will not be redone.  No shot will be counted if it is released AFTER the horn sounds. (The ball must be in flight when time expires for the attempt to count.)  Youth Division: Grades 2-4 will shoot 15-17ft from the rim.

3) The contestant will have 5 warm-up shots from any spot. The contestant must then let the judge know when she/he is ready to begin.  An official will be present to record all shots as makes or misses.  Judges will record the score on score sheets.  The contestant will report to the end of the line until the remaining contestants have completed their shots.

4)  The contestants with the most made shots will advance.  (Depending on the number of participants)

Round 1:  Top 12 contestants will advance.  Round 2:  Top 6 contestants will advance.  Round 3:  Top 3 contestants will advance.  Finals:  1st, 2nd & 3rd place contestants are established. 

5)  In the event of a tie, a tie breaker will be determined by the number of “money balls” made.  If there is still a tie, then each contestant will have a shootout.  The shootout is timeless and will take place from each contestant’s choice spot, with the best score from one rack.  The shootout will continue in this order until the winner is established.

6)  The recorded scores of the Judges are final.  No family member, friends, or spectators, because of their count, can change the Judges score or decision.

Hot Shot Contest Rules:

1)   All contestants must be present and ready to participate at their designated court and shooting time.  In no case may a contestant shoot before or after the designated time. Shooting times are set by Graham’s Shooting Stars Director. Contestants who shoot before or after their designated time will be disqualified. No exceptions.

2)  Each contestant will have 1 minute (60sec) to make as many shots for points from designated positions on the court.  Contestants first shot will be at the free throw line.  Players cannot shoot at the same spot 2 times in a row, they must move to a different spot each time they shoot.

3)  There will be 4 positions to score from:  Inside the paint for 1 point; outside the paint for 2 points; free throw line for 3 points; top of the key (3-point line) for 5 points.  Contestants get 2 points if they have one foot in the paint and one foot outside the paint area.

4)  The contestant must let the judge know when she/he is ready to begin.  An official will be present to record all shots as makes or misses.  Judges will record the score on score sheets.  The contestant will report to the end of the line until the remaining contestants have completed their shots.  At the end of 1 minute (60sec), the points are totaled and the contestant with the most points will advance. 

5)  The contestants with the most points will advance. (Depending on the number of participants)

Round 1:  Top 12 contestants will advance.  Round 2:  Top 6 contestants will advance.  Round 3:  Top 3 contestants will advance.  Finals:  1st, 2nd & 3rd place contestants are established.

Skills Challenge Rules:

1)   All contestants must be present and ready to participate at their designated court and shooting time.  In no case may a contestant shoot before or after the designated time. Shooting times are set by Graham’s Shooting Stars Director. Contestants who shoot before or after their designated time will be disqualified. No exceptions.

2)  The Skills Challenge is an obstacle course that includes dribbling, passing, and a shooting station(layup).  The competition consists of two players that will compete face to face each time without a timekeeper. First to finish the course is deemed the winner.  

 3)  Each contestant will begin at the designated start position. The contestants must then let the judge know when she/he is ready to begin.  An official will be present at each station to notify the contestant upon the completion of that station.

4)  Each contestant must zig zag dribble in and out of the first obstacle station.  After the first obstacle, each contestant will have 3 attempts to chest pass a basketball through the opening of the passing obstacle station. Directly following the completed pass, each contestant must grab a basketball from the designated near side station and dribble to make a layup on the opposite rim and then must dribble back to make a layup to finish the course.

5)  This challenge is a single elimination competition.  The winner of the face to face will advance in each round until a champion is established.
